Keysight and ASTRI launch innovative narrowband IoT design and simulation solutions

December 19, 2016, Beijing – Keysight Technologies Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today introduced an innovative narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) design and simulation solution. The solution is a narrow-band IoT design and verification library that dramatically increases the productivity of system architects and baseband physical layer (PHY) designers by providing ready-to-use reference intellectual property for narrow-band IoT technology research.

Keysight and ASTRI work closely together to develop an RF transceiver architecture. The main tasks include defining RF and baseband interfaces and evaluating system performance and functionality of narrowband IoT termination chips. These efforts have been accomplished to some extent by successfully utilizing ASTRI's existing narrowband IoT solutions. ASTRI has also made important contributions to a variety of future development opportunities, including advising 3GPP standards bodies on optimizing narrowband IoT technical specifications.

As part of the 3GPP Release 13 standard, the narrowband IoT is a specially designed narrowband wireless technology designed to support a larger number of devices and extend battery life while reducing equipment costs. Using Keysight's new solutions, system architects can now view system-level impacts of narrow-band IoT algorithms and models, impairments, interference, and bit error rates.

Keysight's narrowband IoT solution is part of the existing W1918 LTE-A baseband library, consisting of source code, models, subsystems, simulation examples and infrastructure components. Engineers can use a narrowband IoT solution with Keysight's SystemVue electronic system-level simulation platform to ensure rapid development and verification of high-quality, advanced digital modems. This means engineers can easily design narrow-band IoT systems using a variety of modules to build signal sources, baseband transactions, RF transceivers, and signal analysis. The narrowband IoT solution provides a rich set of modeling examples. With these examples in mind, engineers can easily get a design with the best performance and better compare the advantages and disadvantages of different design methods.

By establishing close relationships with experienced development organizations such as ASTRI, Keysight can simplify development and shorten verification cycles to better validate product effectiveness. ASTRI uses Keysight's narrowband IoT solution to develop RF transceiver architecture, RF and baseband interfaces, and verify system performance, as well as perform functional evaluation of narrowband IoT terminal chips. Keysight's solutions can also help 3GPP standards bodies further optimize narrowband IoT technology specifications.
