An electrical appliance that can be operated remotely by a mobile phone can count the power consumption of each interface and issue a socket for statistical reports. The prospect of intelligent household products is tempting, even Tencent has begun to show its presence on this market. Strong interest.
Last week, Tencent Global Partner Conference was held in Boao, Hainan. The “QQ IOT†intelligent hardware open platform was officially announced. In the future, it will focus on connecting applications, intelligent hardware and offline services, and building a social network as a starting point. Intelligent hardware ecosystem.
In fact, smart hardware and the most intelligent home industry in it have long been regarded as the next hotspot in the field of technology. Prior to Tencent, foreign countries such as Goolge, Apple, and Samsung began to deploy through capital acquisitions and platform building strategies. In China, whether it is Ali, Baidu, Jingdong, Xiaomi, etc. represented by Internet companies, or traditional home appliance companies represented by Haier, the United States, and countless startup companies, shells, Broadlink, etc. also want to get a piece of the pie.
The question is, will Tencent, which also plays the "platform" brand, win the favor of developers and traditional home manufacturers?
Competition between platforms
Driven by technologies such as the Internet of Things and cloud computing, mainstream smart home technologies such as power carrier communication, WiFi and ZigBee have matured. Smart homes are at the critical point of market introduction and growth. According to the agency's calculation, by 2018, China's smart home market will reach 139.6 billion yuan, accounting for 32% of the global total, and related equipment companies will welcome development opportunities.
This is the "window" that makes Tencent believe that the next opportunity for the open platform is in terms of hardware.
"Tencent's approach is to cooperate with all hardware manufacturers to quickly reach 800 million QQ active users and 400 million WeChat users, including application packages with a daily distribution of 100 million." Tencent Open Platform and mobile application platform Hou Xiaonan, deputy general manager of the department, said that through these channels, not only software products can be distributed, but also hardware can be used to market. Through massive coverage, then the sale of partner hardware and the corresponding software distribution issues.
Based on the "interests" of Tencent's massive users, the first partners of the "QQ IoT" hardware open platform include Konka, Intel, NXP, American Broadcom, Fengtang IOT, Kangkang blood pressure and many other well-known hardware manufacturers at home and abroad. Across the traditional hardware, smart home, wearable devices, smart car, health equipment and other fields, Intel will cooperate with Tencent in smart home to launch a smart home gateway solution.
According to the plan, Tencent will help more than 1,000 Internet traditional partners to transform the Internet in the next three years, and provide 2 billion yuan of support for Internet hardware development partners.
But in fact, Tencent is already a latecomer to the platform strategy. Whether it is Baidu, Ali, JD or Haier, they all express open interfaces.
“Building an open platform and unifying the rivers and lakes is the ultimate goal of each company. In the future, smart homes will not only be a competition between single companies, but also evolve into a group and a group, or even a competition between one alliance and another.†CITIC Securities Home appliance research analysts believe.
From Baidu family to Jingdong+ plan, Alibaba Cloud's “family eco-chain†to the future community, Haier “U+ platform†and Midea's M-Smart strategic layout, each has begun to expose the ambition of the “war†platform.
Who is the break?
"Smart home is currently difficult to distinguish who is to dominate, but the home appliance alliance to do this kind of thing still has a starting point advantage." Analysys International analyst Xu Wei told the author that the advantage of home appliance manufacturers lies in the appliances they have built for many years. Product supply chain, channels, after-sales service, etc., but also have disadvantages, such as software development, how to solve the problem of interconnection and interoperability with other home appliances brands.
In fact, in order to solve the interconnection problem between products of different home appliance manufacturers, the Chinese market has been industrially interacted by relevant institutions, IT companies and home appliance companies with the support of the competent authorities, and finally formed the standard of two major network appliances, namely, flash. Lianhe E Jiajia. The IGRS camp mainly includes Lenovo, TCL, Konka, Hisense, etc.; E Jiajia camp mainly includes Haier, Tsinghua Tongfang and so on.
However, with the acceleration of competition, home appliance manufacturers are more inclined to “build their own alliances†and take the lead to ensure the maximization of brands and interests.
In 2014, many domestic appliance companies including Haier, Changhong and Midea have announced relevant strategies and deployments: Haier is trying to introduce a more comprehensive solution outside the original U-home smart home system; Changhong expects to Black and white electricity is integrated into the home Internet strategy; the United States aims to build a million user-level community.
"But it only takes a certain amount of time to rely on the strength of traditional manufacturers to gather users." Xu Wei told the author.
He believes that only the combination of software and hardware and services can play the ultimate integrator of the smart home industry chain. The smart home platform not only needs the support of intelligent hardware products, but also the comprehensive capabilities of the cloud and software. Similarly, although Internet companies have a certain user base, such as traffic, user data, software, etc., but also need to attract more smart home hardware companies to join.
However, some insiders pointed out that the premise of smart home deployment is the standardization of communication protocols, the cloudization of data processing, and the unification of operating systems. The integration of software and hardware ecosystems will take a longer period of time.
Qi Gangsheng, general manager of Yi Rui Micro Technology, a design company, told the author that in the game, many upstream small and medium-sized solution companies have placed their hopes on Apple.
“Just like Apple subverts mobile phones, the market needs more preheating effects. In the future, smart homes will have more than one entrance, or hardware, or in the cloud, smart homes will also promote the establishment of an open and secure cloud platform. To provide users, operators, and manufacturers with a win-win industry chain and ecosystem, but always need someone to detonate the entire market." Yan Gangsheng told the author.
However, it is worth noting that Apple does not have the ability to control the home market. Xu Wei believes that China is the largest home appliance manufacturer, and enterprises have very high control over hardware resources. At present, most companies hope to develop their products on their own software platforms. The cooperation targets are mostly domestic giants such as Xiaomi, Ali and Baidu. Apple may not be the best partner. For small manufacturers, whether Apple can become a strong gateway and operating platform, there is still no clue.
