ROS has been released for the eighth anniversary and is very popular among foreign research institutions. At present, several big cockroaches led by the Southwest Research Institute of the United States have begun to try to apply ROS to industrial robots . What is it?
ROS is the acronym for Robot Operating System, originally a robot project at Stanford University, and later developed by WillowGarage, an open source project currently maintained by OSRF (Open Source Robotics Foundation, Inc).
1, first is an operating system
According to wikipedia, an operating system is system software used to manage computer hardware and software resources and provide some common services. ROS also claims to be an OS.

As shown in the above figure, the computer's operating system encapsulates the computer hardware, and the application software runs on the operating system, regardless of the type of hardware product that the computer is specifically applied to. This can greatly improve the efficiency of software development (otherwise everyone can only write and compile).
Similarly, ROS encapsulates the hardware of the robot. Different robots and different sensors can be represented in the same way in ROS (topic, etc.) for upper-layer applications (motion planning, etc.).
