Iron Casing ONU

In daily life, iron-shell ONU is one of the common passive optical network equipment.
Generally speaking, the shell material of the ONU is plastic, which makes the overall body lighter and more resistant to corrosion.
However, in some cases we need to use iron to make the ONU shell. Why is it necessary to use iron, a heavy and non-corrosive material, to make the ONU shell?
