According to Hu Wenhui, a spokesperson for the State Intellectual Property Office, in 2017, the number of invention patent applications in China was 1.382 million, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. A total of 402,000 invention patents were authorized, of which 327,000 were domestic invention patents, an increase of 8.2% year-on-year.
By the end of 2017, China's domestic (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) invention patents totaled 1.356 million, and the number of invention patents per 10,000 population reached 9.8. The top ten provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) per 10,000 population of invention patents in China are: Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Fujian, Anhui, and Liaoning.
Hu Wenhui said that "China's patent creation water is stable. In 2017, China's domestic invention patent applications and authorizations have steadily increased. The proportion of invention patent applications and possession has further increased, and the central and western provinces have invented. The growth rate of patent applications is 16.8 percentage points higher than that of the eastern provinces, and regional development is more balanced."
The reporter was informed that in 2017, the top ten enterprises in China's invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) were: State Grid Corporation, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd., ZTE Communications Co., Ltd., Lenovo (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Zhuhai Gree Electric Co., Ltd., Guangdong Opal Mobile Communications Co., Ltd., China National Petroleum Corporation, and Semiconductor Manufacturing International (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
“The status of domestic enterprises’ innovation main body has been further consolidated.†Hu Wenhui said that in 2017, the proportion of domestic invention patent applications and possession of enterprises reached 63.3% and 66.4% respectively, an increase of 1.6 and 0.9 percentage points over 2016; The contribution rate to the growth of domestic invention patent applications reached 73.5%. The maintenance rate of effective invention patents of domestic enterprises for more than 5 years reached 70.9%, an increase of 3.4 percentage points over 2016.
It is understood that in 2017, the State Intellectual Property Office accepted a total of 51,000 PCT international patent applications, an increase of 12.5%. Among them, 48,000 pieces came from China, an increase of 12.5%. In 2017, there were 7 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) with more than 1,000 PCT international patent applications, followed by Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Hubei. The PCT international patent applications in the above seven provinces and cities accounted for the total domestic patent applications. More than 90% of the amount.
“The overseas patent distribution capability of Chinese enterprises has been continuously enhanced. In 2017, 44 domestic enterprises submitted more than 100 PCT international patent applications each year, an increase of 18 compared with 2016, Guangdong Opal Mobile Communications Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Dajiang Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. and other enterprises have grown rapidly, with year-on-year growth of 142.3% and 46.9% respectively. China's patent applications in the “Belt and Road†countries continue to maintain rapid growth, and the company's patent distribution is increasing, and the “One Belt, One Road†intellectual property cooperation and exchange It has begun to take effect." Hu Wenhui finally said that there is still a gap between the distribution of patents in some areas of China and foreign countries. Among the 35 technical fields divided by the World Intellectual Property Organization, the number of domestic invention patents in 2017 is higher than that of foreign invention patents in Japan, up to 30, compared with 2016, only in optical, medical technology, engines. There are weak gaps between the five fields of audio-visual technology and transportation, but from the perspective of the number of invention patents that have been maintained for more than 10 years, the number of inventions in 29 technical fields is still less than that of foreign countries. Therefore, China still needs to vigorously cultivate high-value core patents.
