Fairchild's new high-efficiency LED street lighting solution


Located in Greater China's Global Power Resource Center, Fairchild Semiconductor has developed a complete LED street lighting solution that delivers high efficiency, excellent thermal performance and high reliability to significantly extend streetlight usage time.

The new streetlight solution features advanced critical conduction mode PFC, high efficiency DC-DC conversion and constant current control, and includes parallel or series sub-solutions in the same board layout.

At 220V input voltage, the parallel solution provides 91.26% efficiency from the AC input to the LED side and 92.6% in the series arrangement.

Parallel solution The current of each LED string is independently controlled. Therefore, if one LED string is broken, the remaining LED strings can still work normally.

For the series solution, each LED string has an independent circuit breaker function. If one LED is broken, the remaining LED strings can still work normally.

In addition, if one LED is shorted, the constant current circuit ensures that all other LEDs in the parallel and series sub-solutions are working properly.

This new solution offers exceptional reliability with fewer component counts, powerful protection and high fault tolerance for LED faults. More than 20 components can be reduced in parallel layout and 86 components in tandem layout.

Fairchild Semiconductor uses the active power factor correction controller FAN7930 to perform boost PFC applications under CrCM and the highly integrated fast power switching product FSFR2100 to provide all the functionality needed to build a reliable and robust resonant half-bridge converter.

The program is designed to reduce power consumption and meet the stringent energy efficiency standards that government agencies around the world have introduced in recent years, including Chinese national and provincial agencies, as well as ENERGY STAR's solid-state lighting guidelines, while also responding to consumer and market The increasing demand for more environmentally friendly electronic products.
