According to the report of Science and Technology Daily, offshore nuclear power floating platforms are also known as offshore nuclear power stations and are of great significance in promoting the exploitation of China's offshore oil and gas resources and the development of surface warship nuclear power technology. Wang Yirong revealed that China has included the offshore nuclear power floating platform in the "13th Five-Year Plan" for the national defense science and technology industry and the "13th Five-Year Plan" for the development of the nuclear industry. Currently, relevant standards research and key technologies have been developed.
Wang Yimeng said that China must build a strong ocean nation and it is very important for the exploitation of marine resources. However, at sea, energy is a problem. The current method is to bring a diesel generator, but it is very troublesome and it is not good for the marine environment. At the same time, Xisha and Nansha Islands are inhabited and lived, and their energy needs also depend on diesel generators. In addition, some large ships in the future also need nuclear power at sea. Offshore nuclear power floating platforms can solve these problems and have broad application prospects.
The National Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) organized industry experts to conduct rounds of argumentation, and determined that a mature technology-improved program should be used to build a floating nuclear power platform at sea. Wang Yiren introduced that the plan is to use the small reactors currently used on land, and transform them for use at sea.
At present, China has arranged special research funding to carry out research on related standards and standards first, and to support key technologies such as overall design and safety technologies, key equipment design tests, and operation and maintenance technologies. While conducting independent research and development, they are also negotiating with Russia for cooperation in order to speed up the process. Wang Yimeng said that after the platform is completed, it is expected that it will be first used in offshore oil exploration and natural gas exploration.
