Maybe one day, when you say "turn on the lights," it will turn out to be a "paper" instead of the familiar light bulbs and tubes. According to media reports, a U.S. company called Rohinni uses light-emitting diode (LED) “light paper†that is introduced by 3D printing. The paper can emit light and is suitable for various surfaces.
According to reports, Light Paper is the thinnest LED lamp in the world. The principle is to mix the ink and micro LED on the conductor layer, then sandwich the printed conductor layer between the other two layers of material and seal it. The size of the micro-diode is only about the size of a red blood cell and randomly spreads on the conductor layer. When current passes through it, it will light up.
Similar to the "glossy" sheet light source, there are organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) that have been regarded as "next-generation display technologies." OLED does not contain heavy metals that are more environmentally friendly, foldable and bendable, and are more widely used. However, its shortcomings are also obvious: low yields and high costs. "Glossy paper" is thinner than OLEDs, and its cost is relatively low. Its service life is as long as 20 years.
However, Rohinni's current challenge is how to evenly distribute the LEDs on the surface when printing the conductor layer. Random spread of the LED will cause the light spot to flash, or a "starry sky" effect. The company's sources said that although this approach has little effect on most applications, there is still a need for the diodes to emit light evenly.
It is reported that Rohinni's “glossy paper†application will target the commercial and industrial markets. It is expected that the first “glossy†product will be launched in mid-2015.
