After seven years of research and development, Southwire Wire and Cable Company Southwire issued an announcement saying that the company has finally successfully developed carbon fiber overhead conductors - C7 overhead conductors. It is reported that this kind of carbon fiber composite material has strong durability, reliability and high flexibility, and its service life can exceed 40 years.
Mark Lancaster, director of Overhead Transmission Engineering at Southern Cable, said, “Southern Cable has 60 years of experience and innovation history in power cables. Our goal in developing C7 overhead conductors is to provide customers with ACSR (steel cores) that can replace the standard. Aluminum wire) and HS285® power line products, while ensuring the stability, durability and reliability of power supply in a variety of harsh environments."
According to cable network reporters, the carbon fiber material used in the C7 overhead conductors developed by Southern Cable is a Celstran® CFR-TPR produced by Celanese, a leading US manufacturer of carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastics. Using this new high-performance material conductor design can further optimize performance, increase value, and extend product durability. In addition, the C7 overhead conductor also has excellent heat dissipation performance, which can reduce the cost of new wire installation and redeployment of wires.
