There is also a long connection cable that is susceptible to lightning intrusion or inducing instantaneous high voltage damage to the RS485 interface circuit and the controller DSP system. To handle the above problems, a reliable protection circuit must be designed for the RS485 interface, including over-current protection and over-voltage protection. The use of a PPTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient Thermistor) device is a cost-effective protection scheme. In the short-circuit fault condition, the PPTC device can quickly switch from a low-impedance state to a high-impedance state, thereby limiting the current protection RS485 interface and equipment. For overvoltage protection, we can use TVS tube (silicon based ESD protection device). TVS tube clamp voltage is low, ESD resistance is high, and the package size is small. It is the ideal choice for RS485 interface electrostatic protection and overvoltage protection.
