LG Group's Siltron Corporation has announced that it will begin mass production of 6-inch sapphire substrates from March 2011.
Siltron's sapphire backplane will be supplied to LED manufacturer LG Innotek for processing into chips. Currently, LG Innotek is advancing the preparation of a processing line for processing 6-inch substrates. The processed chips will be supplied to LG Electronics and LG monitors. The vertical integration of LED components and LED-equipped products will be formed within the LG Group, enabling them to reduce costs and increase competitiveness.
Siltron is a manufacturer of substrates for semiconductors and solar cells, and 51% of its shares are held by LG Group. This sapphire base plate was shown at "iSEDEX2010 (12th International Semiconductor 2010)" held recently at KINTEX, South Korea.
