Japanese scientists develop green OLED luminescent materials

At the 56th JSAP Japan Applied Physics Society held by the University of Tsukuba, Japan from March 30th to April 2nd, a research team from Japan announced the successful development of green fluorescent materials with a luminous efficiency of 210lm/W.

The research team led by Professor Akiyoshi Mikami of the Advanced Vision Electromagnetic Science Laboratory is affiliated with Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Japan. They have increased the light extraction efficiency of the fluorescent material to 56.9%, which is about twice that of existing OLED devices.

In the industry, about 30% improvement in light extraction efficiency of O LED devices is considered to be a very difficult task, and this new technology can effectively improve the luminous efficiency of OLED devices and lamps. It uses a bottom-emitting structure with a transparent electrode at the bottom, a glass substrate with a thickness of 0.73 and a high refractive index of 2.03, and a glass lens substrate with an optical lens array of 0.3 mm pitch.

The luminescent layer material of the device is a host material called "CBP", and is added with a bismuth compound Ir(ppy) 3. Its wavelength peak is located at 500 to 550 nm, which is a wavelength band of green light. The luminous brightness reaches 10 cd/m2, the luminous efficiency is 210 lm/W, and the light extraction efficiency is 56.9%. If there is no high refractive index glass substrate, the luminous efficiency is only 94.3 lm/W, which means that the glass substrate improves the light extraction efficiency. About 2.3 times.
