I am not a cottage ASUS WAVI Xtion somatosensory controller is about to ship

At the beginning of the year, Asustek had demonstrated its WAVI Xtion, a PC-based wireless somatosensory system, on CeBIT. This device was officially released recently. According to Jian Xiaojian, general manager of the ASUS Multimedia Business Unit, WAVI Xtion will begin sales in October with the first shipment of 100,000 units.

ASUS WAVI Xtion is composed of WAVI, a wireless transmission technology developed by the company, and Xtion Pro, a somatosensory system. The latter is linked with Microsoft's Kinect and is based on Israel's PrimeSense chip solution. According to the Taiwan Business Times, ASUS and Prime Sense have even earlier than Microsoft, when Prime Sense invited Asustek to take a stake but the transaction did not become a success.

As the Chinese mainland market does not allow Xbox 360, PS3 and other home consoles to be sold on the surface, Jian Xiaojian revealed that Asustek will lock the mainland as the main sales market for WAVI Xtion and seize the share before Microsoft Kinect launches a formal Windows-based application.

According to industry sources, the ASUS WAVI Xtion sells for around US$230-299, and the company has formed a strategic partnership with the ITRI in Taiwan to jointly develop a somatosensory control software system and related applications.
